About Grant

I’m Grant Denney, an NCSF-certified personal trainer and strength and conditioning coach in Carmel, Indiana. I coach the way I do because of what my own body has put me through.
I grew up playing everything — football, basketball, anything competitive. I also grew up getting hurt. By my early twenties I’d been through more than a half dozen joint surgeries: meniscus repairs, a shoulder rebuilt twice, and eventually an ACL reconstruction and cartilage grafts in my right knee. When one of my doctors finally went looking for the reason my joints kept failing, the trail ended somewhere I didn’t expect — a rheumatologist’s office, and a rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis at seventeen.
We tried the medications available at the time. For me, they didn’t change much. Meanwhile the surgeries kept coming and I was trending the wrong way — heavier, stiffer, and in more pain every year. The standard advice was rest. Rest wasn’t working. Nobody hands you a plan for being twenty with joints that act three times their age.
So I spent the next few years building one. I became obsessed with a single question: how do joint stability, mobility, and strength actually reduce pain — and how do you train them without making things worse? I studied it, tested every bit of it on myself, and rebuilt my body rep by rep. Today I’m stronger, more flexible, and more mobile than I’ve ever been. I train Muay Thai at KruFit in Fishers. The diagnosis didn’t go away — the limitations mostly did.
That experience is the foundation of how I coach.
Who I Work With
You don’t need to be an athlete. Most of my clients are everyday adults in Carmel and Indianapolis: beginners who feel intimidated walking into a gym, women who want to get strong without living there, people managing old injuries or achy knees, shoulders, and backs, clients losing weight on GLP-1 medications who want to keep their muscle, and older adults who want to stay capable and independent. If you’ve ever been told “just rest it” and watched yourself get weaker — I built this business for you.
How I Coach
Every program starts with an assessment: your goals, your injury history, your schedule, and what your body can realistically handle right now. From there I build your plan around progressive strength training, joint stability and mobility work, and nutrition habits you can actually keep. I don’t do cookie-cutter workouts, and I’ll never push you through pain just to make a session feel hard — there’s a difference between training hard and training smart, and I’ve paid the tuition to know it. Where it matters, I work alongside whatever your doctor or physical therapist recommends. This is training support built on lived experience — not medical advice.
