Nutrition Coaching in Carmel, IN

You don’t need another diet. You need to know what to eat, how much, and how to keep doing it when life gets busy. That’s nutrition coaching, and it’s half of every result my clients get.

I’m Grant Denney, an NCSF-certified personal trainer and nutrition coach in Carmel, Indiana. I coach nutrition the same way I coach training: a clear plan built around your goals and your actual life, targets you can hit with normal food, and a coach checking in so you don’t drift. No cleanses, no banned foods, no 1,200-calorie plans.

What nutrition coaching with me looks like

  1. Targets, not rules. We set a daily protein target and a calorie range that fits your goal: fat loss, muscle gain, or holding steady while you get strong. Those numbers live in the Ultimate You Fitness app, and I set them so they always match your training.
  2. Protein first. Protein keeps you full, protects your muscle while you lose fat, and builds it when you’re lifting. Most people are eating about half of what they need. We fix that first, and most of the rest takes care of itself.
  3. Food you’ll actually eat. Meal guidance is built from the foods you already like and the schedule you already have. If you cook, great. If you live on Chipotle and Costco rotisserie chicken, we can work with that too.
  4. Logging that’s useful, not obsessive. Log your food in the app, as much or as little detail as you want. I see what you log and we adjust together. You can also send me a photo of a meal or a nutrition label and get feedback.
  5. Habits that survive real life. Eating out, travel, holidays, kids’ schedules, a bad week at work. The plan accounts for them, because a plan that only works on perfect weeks doesn’t work.
  6. Adjusted as you go. Your body changes, your targets change. We review progress regularly and update the numbers, so you’re never stuck on a plan that stopped working months ago.

One thing I really appreciate is having access to personalized workout and meal plans through the Ultimate You Fitness app. The workouts are easy to follow, well-structured, and tailored to my fitness level and goals. The meal guidance has also helped me make better food choices and stay focused on building healthier habits.

What I don’t do

  • Crash diets. They cost you muscle, slow your metabolism, and set up the rebound. If you’ve lost the same 20 pounds three times, you already know.
  • Cutting out food groups. Unless you have a medical reason or a real allergy, carbs, dairy and the occasional dessert are all on the table.
  • Supplements as the answer. Protein powder and creatine are useful tools. Fat burners and detox teas are not. I’ll tell you plainly which is which.
  • Pretend I’m a doctor. If you have a medical condition that affects how you eat, diabetes, kidney issues, an eating disorder history, I’ll coach within your doctor’s or dietitian’s guidance, not around it.

Who this is for

Nutrition coaching is included for every training client, in person or online. It’s for adults in Carmel and Indianapolis who want to lose fat and keep it off, men and women who want to build muscle and need to eat for it, and anyone who’s tired of guessing. If you’re on Ozempic, Wegovy or Zepbound, protein has to be deliberate when you’re not hungry, and I build your targets around that.

Want to get a feel for it first? The nutrition basics guide covers how I think about food, and the free calculators will give you a starting protein and calorie number in about a minute.

Questions people ask

Do you give me a meal plan?

You get targets, meal guidance built from your foods, and examples of what a day that hits your numbers looks like. I don’t hand you a rigid “eat this at 7:00 am” sheet, because nobody follows those for more than two weeks. You learn to build your own days, which is what makes it stick.

Do I have to count calories?

Logging for a few weeks is the fastest way to see what’s actually going on. After that, many clients move to simpler habits: a protein at every meal, a hand-sized portion of this, a fist of that. We pick the approach you’ll keep doing.

Can I do nutrition coaching without training with you?

It comes with training, in person or online, because the two work far better together. If you just want to talk through where you’re at, the consultation is free.
